ARE OREOS AS ADDICTING AS COCAINE?

Cookie cravings are more serious than we thought! Researchers at Connecticut College have found evidence that Oreo cookies are as addictive as cocaine – for lab rats, at least. The study was initially designed to find the impact of high-fat and high-sugar foods in low-income neighborhoods. Researchers discovered that when rats were placed in a maze with rice cakes and Oreos, they would always gravitate towards the Oreos. The results were almost identical to a similar study in which rats were either given a shot of cocaine or morphine on one side of the maze or a shot of saline on the other. The rats always picked the “drug” side of the maze. It was also found that the Oreos “activated significantly more neurons than cocaine or morphine” in the rats. Junk food is a powerful drug! (Fortunately they are a whole lot cheaper than cocaine...and alot safer.)
